So much heartbreak. This book will make you cry, but most of all it will make you smile thinking that with all this sadness Colton and Nell somehow find love.

In summary, Nell's first love Kyle was her best friend from birth. But at 16 they realize that they're not just friends, they're so much more. Their eachothers firsts in every way possible. For 2 years they found absolute perfection in eachother. But with colleges and life after highschool creeping up on them Kyle asks Nell that life altering question.
It's too soon. They haven't experienced life yet. She's not ready.
Little did she know none of these excuses would matter. In that second of heartbreak Kyle dies, saving Nell. His last words were all words of love, hers were promises for their life together, but it wasn't enough.
Kyle is dead.
Days later after man ccondolencesand words of sympathy, words and actions mean nothing to Nell. She is numb, unable to cry or accept what has happened. Until she meets Colton, Kyles older brother by 5 years. After leaving at 17 never to be seen again, here he is at his little brothers funeral, helping Nell not with words but just his presence.
Then again he's there, at the dock by his and her house, getting drunk and playing guitar. In a slightly buzzed daze Nell and Colton kiss, and that breaks her. Refusing to lean on him for support she runs, and so does he.

“All we can do is try, do our best. Give as much time as we have to give, one day at a time. One breath at a time”

But 2 years later they run into eachother by chance as Colton is singing and playing his guitar for a crowd in a park. Without any words spoken she begins playing her own guitar and singing with him. Not much becomes of this until he sees her again, with some big asshat attached to her arm. Seeing the obvious tension in her relationship Colton follows her home and saving her from her "boyfriends" attempt at raping her.
In this one night they learn all the deep stuff about eachother. Both suffering from heartbreak, one of which is shared, both sharing guilt, both self destructive, and both finding an overwhelming sense of peace and attraction to one another.
With all their baggage can they really make this work?
They soon find out after months of dating and an accidental pregnancy that is soon added to their list of heartbreak as Nell loses the baby.
Somehow they're moving forward still, and deeply and madly falling into eachother.

“I’m not just falling in love with you, Nell. I’m falling into you. You’re an ocean, and I’m falling in, drowning in the depths of who you are. Like you said, it’s scary in a way, but it’s also the most amazing thing I’ve ever experienced. You are the most amazing thing I’ve ever experienced.”

This book was so heartbreaking! and for all it's heartbreak I was really hoping for a super upbeat epilogue where they have a baby and get married or something. The only ending you get is them having sex and hoping that things will be okay.

I'd like to give this book 5 stars because it really captured my attention and I could not put it down, but with such a bleak and questionable ending I just can't. I wanted more to make up for the amount of tears shed because of this book.
